Center For Popular Democracy Condemns Reported DACA Deal

“We will hold politicians who act in complicity with Trump’s agenda accountable,” says national network of community organizing groups

09.13.2017

NEW YORK – On Wednesday night, Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Nancy Pelosi announced that they had reached a deal with President Trump to pass legislation replacing the repealed DACA program in exchange for further border militarization. In response, the Center for Popular Democracy released the following statement from Co-Executive Director Ana Maria Archila:

“The reported deal between Schumer, Pelosi and Trump is totally unacceptable. It represents a complete failure on the part of Democrats to stand up for immigrant communities against the ongoing attacks by a white supremacist administration. We have said all along that we would not allow the lives of Dreamers to be used as a bargaining chip to funnel more money into already out of control border enforcement, which brings so much violence to border communities and to the immigrants it targets.

DACA youth are here to stay, and they are part of a growing movement to resist not only the mass deportation machine that Trump wants to feed all our tax dollars, but the larger push by the President and his supporters to create a police state to enforce the continued oppression of all people of color. Our movement is strong, and we will hold politicians who act in complicity with Trump’s agenda accountable.”
