Steady Medicaid Coverage Impeded by Sign-Up Woes, Income Changes

Red tape and administrative hassles continue to act as barriers to steady health-care coverage for low-income people, a new report on the Medicaid program found.

More than 60% of those surveyed reported facing challenges in getting enrolled in Medicaid and staying in the program, according to the report released Thursday by the Center for Popular Democracy. Challenges include lack of access to Medicaid offices, long wait times on the phone or dropped calls, poorly designed websites, and unhelpful phone representatives.

About 35% of survey respondents said they were dissatisfied with the process, the policy advocacy group found.
