We work to hold government and corporations accountable, improve the health of our families, economy and environment, and reform our public schools, workplaces and financial institutions. 

LUCHA is leading the Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families campaign to raise wage levels and improve benefits for working families in Arizona. Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families is hiring a highly experienced campaign manager to run this ballot initiative campaign. The Campaign Director will work with LUCHA in the development, planning, and implementation of a year-long campaign to successfully pass the Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families initiative.  The campaign strategy requires the development of a significant base-building component that engages low-propensity voters into the issue campaign and the electoral & legislative process. 

The campaign will be run in conjunction with small businesses, labor groups, social justice organizations, critical constituency groups and allies.  The ideal candidate will have both ballot issue and/or statewide candidate campaign experience, as well as legislative and electoral/political campaign experience. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

The candidate will report to the chair of the Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families committee. 

  • Coordinate with our coalition lobbyist, communications team and coalition members to effectively stop legislative attempts at pre-emption of earned sick time and/or minimum wage increases.
  • Oversee the overall growth and effective implementation of the Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families Campaign as well as the Emerging Voter program.
  • Work with LUCHA’s Executive Director, Campaign Committee, key stakeholders, board and staff to develop and implement a multi-prong campaign strategy that includes both an issue organizing and electoral program.
  • Develop a fundraising plan and raise money to support programmatic budgets.
  • Supervise and coordinate with legal, bookkeeping, and compliance staff and consultants to ensure compliance with all applicable campaign finance laws and regulations
  • Oversee the ballot qualifying phase (signature collection) 
  • Oversee the coordinated campaign efforts with allies, partners, and all other designated staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee the development and production of the communications strategy.
  • Oversee the management of a large field team of experienced organizers and canvassers, non-profit organizations, and for-profit vendors to ensure effective implementation of the Emerging Voters program and Arizonans for Fair Wages and Healthy Families campaign, including accountability metrics for signature gathering and voter contact
  • Oversee implementation of the political program, including established field tracking, data and accountability systems.
  • Provide a strategic vision for the campaign that promotes the vision of a better more equitable Arizona.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff, volunteers and campaign partners, with particular emphasis on building local capacity for future similar campaigns;
  • Help ensure that this campaign supports the growth and development of LUCHA and is in alignment with the organizational vision and partner organizations’ growth
  • Ensure that all the many moving pieces of this exciting campaign are implemented successfully. 

 Job Requirements:

  • Minimum five years organizing experience (labor or community, or non-candidate electoral).
  • Experience managing large scale or statewide issue campaigns.
  • Independent and strong leader that is able to drive projects and programs to completion in fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and other communities of color.
  • Understanding of the Arizona Legislative process.
  • Experience with developing political programs with strategic targeting and list development.
  • Familiarity with political data, latest technologies, and best practices.
  • Experience building broad-based coalitions and working with grassroots organizations.
  • Comfort with the implementation of a range of organizing strategies and tactics.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, results focused, and well organized.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations.
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours.
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred but not required.
