CPD: Biden must use Executive Orders to deliver for working class people

Working class people need Biden to fulfill his promises through executive orders

For Immediate Release: March 1, 2022

NEW YORK -  We at CPD applaud President Biden’s leadership on the world stage – rallying nations to condemn and impose sanctions against Russian president Vladimir Putin and Russia’s indefensible attack against the people of Ukraine. Nonetheless, this war will impact the global economy – exponentially driving up inflation. People around the world, including the United States, will feel the burden of the rising prices of food, fuel, and other basic life necessities.

Marginalized communities across our country are reeling from a global pandemic and its economic fallout; a decades-long shortage of affordable housing; over-policing that has left a toll on people of color; and inaccessible and expensive healthcare system; a growing opioid crisis, and an attack on our democracy through attempts to roll back voting rights.

“President Biden must use every tool in his toolbox to fulfill his promises and win the support of working class people, says CPD’s Co-Executive Directors Analilia Mejia and DaMareo Cooper. Their joint statement comes as the nation anticipates tonight’s 2022 State of the Union Address – Biden’s first since taking office last year.

“If Congress won’t deliver, Biden must use executive action to combat climate change, protect immigrants, cancel student debt, lower prescription drug costs and invest in community safety.

“President Biden must deliver on his promises to ensure the future of our communities. We’ll be working to make sure he does — look for us in the streets, in the halls of Congress and in front of the White House.”
