Violence Against Haitian Migrants Must Stop Immediately

CBP and ICE cannot be reformed — they must be abolished

For Immediate Release
Wednesday, September 22, 2021

NEW YORK CITY - In response to the horrific abuse being perpetrated by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) against Haitian migrants seeking safety at the border, Ana Maria Archila, co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, issued the following statement:

“While seeking refuge in the United States, Haitian migrants have been met with Border Patrol agents brandishing whips.  Many are also being deported as more and more deportation flights leave for Haiti.  This state violence against Black immigrants must stop immediately.  The Biden administration must put an end to CBP abuse, halt deportations to Haiti, and provide humanitarian assistance and parole.

The repeated violence perpetrated by CBP and ICE prove time and time again that these agencies — rooted in white supremacy and anti-Blackness — cannot be reformed and must be abolished.”

The Center for Popular Democracy is a national network of more than 50 community organizations dedicated to achieving racial and economic justice through local grassroots organizing. CPD trains and supports leadership, staff, and members to grow base-building organizations to scale and leverage that strength to win cutting-edge policy victories at the federal, state and local level.
