About the Position

We are seeking a talented and experienced organizer who will help drive CPD's organizing initiative with CPD-affiliated grassroots community organizations in multiple states. The position is part of an organizing program intended to build vibrant working-class organizations that can powerfully move progressive change. This program organizes to expand the depth and breadth of a powerful grassroots base of member leaders throughout the country. 

This is a senior organizing position on CPD’s Base-Building organizing team.

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Organizing Manager will:

  • Work closely with affiliate executive directors, organizing directors and lead organizers to develop and help implement affiliate specific organizing programs that align with our national program. This includes working with affiliate programs to track metrics and goals in order to help programs succeed and make adjustments as needed. 
  • Travel to work with affiliates, for extended periods of time, in order to work alongside the organizing teams, troubleshoot problems, support the organizing directors, and help assess the programs.  
  • Work closely with the CPD organizing team to coordinate the numerous aspects of field work including coordinated political and campaign efforts, data and digital organizing, and more.
  • As part of the larger effort, make substantive contributions to working collaboratively with other organizations or stakeholders to create and improve upon the organizing model.
  • Provide training to organizing staff on topics including: outreach and retention, leadership development, field outreach and varied member engagement tactics, campaign planning and strategic communications.
  • Bottom line reporting on grant deliverables and ensure accountability. This includes helping write up memos and reports based on the program work.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • Deep familiarity and experience with community organizing and issue campaigns including but not limited to one-on-one relational meetings, power mapping, direct action, training, group management/facilitation and outreach and recruitment.
  • Experience with membership development and retention, base building and managerial experience.
  • At least 6 years of experience working within a not-for-profit social justice organization or union.
  • The knowledge and skills to function as a strategic planner and leader within grassroots labor and political circles.
  • A strong track record of winning concrete campaign victories, mobilizing large numbers of people into action, power analysis, campaign development, and building community leadership.
  • A demonstrated commitment to social justice, strong analysis of systemic oppression based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, and an understanding of challenges facing communities of color and low-and moderate-income families.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A high level of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively to solve problems and overcome obstacles.

The salary range for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. We have a generous benefits package, including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 15 vacation days per year, 10 sick days per year, 12 paid holidays per year, and contributions to individuals’ 401K plans.
